Regarding the news that the CBS is making a modernised Sherlock: my first thought was
My second thought was along the lines of “wow, are they really that lost on ideas for new shows?”
Ah well, we’ll see how this pans out.
I’m not holding my breath though, personally I reckon it’ll sink like a stone for lack of a market niche. We’ve got BBC Sherlock which is a hard act to follow, and there’s House which, as people have already pointed out, is basically already filling the American modern Sherlock show spot anyway. Plus the movies, not really relevant to this but adding them I’m seeing the beginnings of market over-saturation.
Which I don’t particularly mind, but people in the show making business should, it’s not really a smart thing.
Also, one reason I enjoy BBC Sherlock so much more than the movies is that it’s done in a very British fashion, and while I’m not any sort of British I find their entertainment culture much more appealing for characters and stories like Sherlock Holmes than the American style, which I find generally lacking in subtlety. That’s just why I personally am not excited about it.
“Half the harm that is done in this world
Is due to people who want to feel important.
They don’t mean to do harm — but the harm does not interest them.
Or they do not see it, or they justify it
Because they are absorbed in the endless struggle
To think well of themselves.”—from ‘The Cocktail Party’ by T.S. Eliot (via hermionejg)
So I’ve successfully turned my family into Sherlockians.
And, after finishing the DVDs my brother and I were making hot chocolates for ourselves in the kitchen (as you do), and he pauses for a moment pouring the kettle, tilts his head and remarks “Sherlock is an ass, but his voice makes me want to turn gay for him”.
seriously, this is just like with the gerita fanfic. why would you join/make a hate group over a pairing between fictional characters i don’t really care much about usuk but this is just plain stupid people just need to calm the eff down
